“How do I know if I need therapy?”
I hear people ask how they should know if they need therapy – the answer is, if you feel like you might, then you could probably benefit from it.
Many people contact me as they recognise that they constantly put others first, avoid conflict, chase approval, and over-apologise. They do all this to try to keep others happy, but in the process find that they lose themselves, and become unhappy as a consequence, not to mention feeling that it isn’t even working!
I work with people who are feeling anxious, overwhelmed, wanting help with a particular topic, or sometimes just not feeling quite ‘themselves’.
You don’t need to bring a diagnosis or a plan; just come as you are and we’ll figure out the rest together. My job is to help you make sense of what’s going on, by untangling those thoughts and feelings, to help you start feeling more like yourself.
“People are just as wonderful as sunsets if you let them be. When I look at a sunset, I don’t find myself saying, “Soften the orange a bit on the right hand corner.” I don’t try to control a sunset. I watch with awe as it unfolds.”
“The curious paradox is that, when I accept myself as I am, then I can change.”
What might therapy look like?
Messy thoughts
Sometimes life feels heavy, loud, or tangled. Maybe you’re juggling too much, second-guessing yourself, or stuck in old patterns. You might not know where to start, and that’s okay.
Untangling
We can slow things down, look at what’s going on, what’s been weighing you down, what keeps you stuck, and why. Bit by bit, we make sense of it together.
The Shift
After a while, things start to feel clearer and less overwhelming. You feel more confident to handle life on your terms, whatever it brings.
My Approach
I work as a counsellor and also as a hypnotherapist, because one size doesn’t fit all. Some things need time, space, talking and processing. Others are more deeply rooted and are better helped using an approach that goes beyond logic and into the subconscious. Combining the two means I can tailor my approach to best help you, whether that is processing old patterns, or getting to the bottom of the stuff you can’t quite explain, using a wide range of tools to help you the best way I can.
It’s important to find a therapist that’s a good fit for you. Let’s chat!
You might not know that the most important factor for therapeutic change has been shown to be your relationship with your therapist!
That’s because therapy isn’t just about techniques or tools; it’s about the connection. The right therapist is someone you feel you can be yourself with, without judgement.
People tell me they feel comfortable with me because I’m real, I listen with intent to understand, and I don’t run from the tough stuff. In therapy with me, you’ll get honesty, warmth, and someone who’s not afraid to gently challenge you when it helps.
Feeling heard and understood is the foundation of good therapy; and that’s always where I start.
