{"id":590,"date":"2026-04-03T18:57:40","date_gmt":"2026-04-03T18:57:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/carrynwilliams.com\/?p=590"},"modified":"2026-04-03T18:57:47","modified_gmt":"2026-04-03T18:57:47","slug":"easter-phoenix-story","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/carrynwilliams.com\/fr\/easter-phoenix-story\/","title":{"rendered":"When Everything Burns: A Different Kind of Easter Story"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I was talking with a client recently about Easter, and we both agreed it\u2019s probably the least good of the holidays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Neither of us is religious, so we weren\u2019t really talking about that side of it \u2014 more the vibe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Christmas gets lights, warmth, atmosphere.<br>Easter gets insipid pastel colours, and a rabbit that delivers eggs (huh?).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At one point we were discussing the rebirth of springtime, and she said,<br><em>\u201cWho even decided on bunnies and chicks? They could have chosen anything.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And honestly\u2026 she\u2019s right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They could have chosen anything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An image swam across my mind.<br><strong><em>A phoenix.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And somewhere in that conversation, a different kind of Easter rebirth story started to take shape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\ud83d\udd25 The Easter Phoenix<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is a story told, not of gentle spring mornings and soft colours, but of fire, destruction and rebirth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The phoenix does not always choose to burn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes she senses the change coming. A restlessness, a knowing that <em>something<\/em> no longer fits. And sometimes, she even leans into it, allowing the flames to take hold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Other times, she resists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She patches things up. Holds things together. Tries desperately to maintain the shape of a life that is already cracking. She tells herself, <em>\u201cNot yet. I can keep this together. It\u2019ll be fine.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And for a while, it works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Until it doesn\u2019t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Until the weight of everything unspoken, unfelt, or avoided catches, and suddenly (or perhaps not so suddenly) it all goes up in flames.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And in that moment, <strong><em>everything burns<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not a clean ending. Not a meaningful one. Just loss. Heat. Ash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Devastation. And what comes after the fire\u2026 is worse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The noise is gone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No more fixing.<br>No more trying.<br>No more distraction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just stillness. Emptiness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And in that stillness, something unbearable&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The realisation that this <strong><em>might not<\/em><\/strong> pass.<br>That what has been lost is not coming back.<br>That this\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026is it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Everything that once felt certain, hopeful, or worth moving towards, falls away. And nothing rises to take its place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cWhat was the point of any of it?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cWhy did I try so hard for it to all fall apart anyway?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cWhat\u2019s left?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A silent kind of desperation.<br>Not loud or dramatic \u2013 just\u2026 <strong><em>absolute<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The sense that there is no next step.<br>No version of the future that makes sense anymore.<br>No reason to believe things will be different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And for a while, maybe days, maybe weeks, or even months, this is all there is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ash.<br>Silence.<br>Nothing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And then, at some point, perhaps out of sheer exhaustion, the phoenix stops fighting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She stops searching for what\u2019s gone.<br>Stops trying to rebuild what cannot be rebuilt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And reluctantly turns toward the nothing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The emptiness.<br>The absence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And in that turning towards, the acceptance, in the allowing, and the no longer fighting<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>something<\/em> moves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not because anything has been fixed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not because hope has arrived. Not yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But a small space opens up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And in that space\u2026 something almost imperceptible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A tiny spark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So small it could be missed.<br>So faint it almost feels like nothing at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But it is not nothing &#8211; and this time, there is room for it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No rush to turn it into something bigger.<br>No pressure for it to mean anything yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just a flicker, held in the quiet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And from that &#8211; slowly, cautiously, bravely &#8211; something begins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a way that can\u2019t be forced or predicted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perhaps it looks like rest.<br>Or anger.<br>Saying no where you once said yes.<br>Noticing something you might have ignored before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It might be subtle. Or messy. It might not look like \u2018rebirth\u2019 at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>But the phoenix does rise.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not because she tries hard enough, or gets it right, but because something in her was never gone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And after the burning, in the quiet and the dark, in the embers of a life, it becomes possible to see that tiny spark of \u2018her\u2019 again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not all at once, and certainly not perfectly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But inevitably, inexorably, and in its own time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\ud83c\udf31 If You\u2019re in the Ash<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re in that place right now where things feel like they\u2019ve ended, and nothing new has taken their place yet, it can be incredibly hard to sit in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We\u2019re never really taught how to be there. Instead we\u2019re encouraged to move on, stay positive, find meaning, fix it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But sometimes, what helps most is something much simpler (and much harder):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Staying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Letting it be what it is, without rushing to get past it or turn it into something else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If that\u2019s something you\u2019re struggling with, you might find it helpful to read<br>\ud83d\udc49 <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/carrynwilliams.com\/fr\/how-do-i-know-if-counselling-is-right-for-me\/\">How do I know if counselling is right for me?<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Or<br>\ud83d\udc49 <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/carrynwilliams.com\/fr\/what-is-hypnotherapy-and-does-it-actually-work-cheshire-hypnotherapist\/\">What is hypnotherapy?<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because often, the urge to escape the ash is what keeps us trapped in it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A Different Kind of Beginning<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some beginnings don&#8217;t come with a clear plan, or arrive fully formed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Often, it doesn\u2019t look like the versions of \u201cstarting afresh\u201d that we\u2019re usually sold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019ve ever come through something you thought you wouldn\u2019t\u2026 you\u2019ll recognise it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That moment where something starts to shift.<br>Not dramatically.
