Hypnotherapy has helped clients to overcome phobias, manage anxiety, be more confident, lose weight, conquer addictions – the list goes on! Perhaps most surprisingly, hypnotherapy is NICE-recognised, and even recommended as an effective treatment for IBS, by improving the gut-brain connection.
Hypnotherapy uses focused attention and specialised techniques to change the way we think, amending our fundamental beliefs and forging new neural pathways, overwriting the old ones. Effectively, we can use hypnotherapy to reprogramme our brains, if we want to!

FAQ
What is hypnotherapy, and how is it different from hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a focused attention technique (often, but not always, incorporating relaxation); hypnotherapy combines hypnosis with therapeutic work to help change habits, behaviours, emotions, or perceptions.
Is hypnosis real and does it work?
Yes, hypnosis is a genuine, scientifically studied phenomenon. Brain imaging shows it can change perception and sensation. Research and clinical trials support its effectiveness for issues like anxiety, chronic pain, IBS, phobias, and habit change.
Will I lose control or do something I don’t want to?
No. You remain fully conscious and in control during hypnotherapy. You cannot be made to act against your will, despite what stage shows and films suggest!
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on your goals. For many people, 4-6 sessions can provide a solid foundation for change, especially for anxiety or stress. Less complex matters such as phobias or habits may require fewer.
What happens in a hypnotherapy session?
Most sessions last around 60 minutes. You’ll spend time talking about your goals, followed by a guided relaxation or trance. Suggestions are then tailored to your aim, and you’re gently brought out of trance at the end.
Is hypnotherapy safe?
Generally yes—when conducted by trained, qualified practitioners. Side effects are rare but may include dizziness or emotional release. Hypnotherapy is not recommended for individuals experiencing active psychosis or certain severe mental health conditions.
